“One of the best midweek sessions in the country bar none, The Priory’s electric mix of electronic club music wrecks havoc on Cambridge Fez Club on the third Thursday of every month. Unsurprisingly, it also happens to be the No.1 employers’ enemy in Cambridge.
Since moving to The Fez in 2006, The Priory’s roll call can count Detroit legends Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson and Rolando, the enigmatic Andrew Weatherall, as well as the bleeding-edge sounds of Hot Chip, Hannah Holland and Jamie Jones. But no-one has caused the same level of school night carnage as rave icons Altern 8.
Run by local DJs George Lanham, James Skywalker and Sam I Am, The Priory started out in the back room of tiny Cambridge boozer Man On The Moon six years ago. No big name guests, the idea was to give Cambridge some decent underground techno at a time when it was desperately lacking it.
As nifty in the studio as he is on the decks, The Priory resident George Lanham has recently had his demonic 303 funk monster ‘The Exeter Era’ snapped up by Unique 3’s Mutate Records, while the dark acid grooves of ‘Calling in The Rats’ are forthcoming on Woody McBride’s Communique Recordings.
Check into The Priory for more work-dodging, sleep-mocking debauchery when they celebrate their sixth birthday on Thursday 21st January at The Fez. Former Black Strobe filth peddler Ivan Smagghe is the main guest. Best get practising that cough and splutter combo.”
